Post Office Travel Money’s Family Ski Resort Report finds Bansko cheapest for ski and living costs
Post Office Travel Money’s latest Family Ski Resort Report has pinpointed Bulgaria’s Bansko as the best value winter resort destination for UK travellers. Offering by far the lowest prices for ski-related and day to day living costs such as cups of coffee and meals out, UK skiers visiting this destination will be pleased to find that their foreign currency stretches further than in many other resorts.
The report, researched in conjunction with Where to Ski and Snowboard, found that Eastern Europe offers the best value ski resorts for UK holidaymakers to get the most from their foreign currency. Slovenia’s Kranjska Gora was found to be the second best value resort for UK travellers’ travel money spend, which on average totalled £1,101.21 in UK holidaymakers’ travel money. This compares to Bansko’s £1,002.69 in typical travel money outlays, including a 6-day lift pass and ski/ boot hire as well as the cost of a family meal, cup of coffee and a Coca-Cola.
Alternatively, Switzerland’s Wengen resort proved to be the most expensive European destination for UK travellers to spend their foreign currency while skiing. Wengen’s ski and day to day living costs were found by the Post Office Travel Money research to be over double those of Bansko’s, at £2,015.59.
Sarah Munro, Post Office Head of Travel Money, said: "While checking foreign exchange rates and resort-swapping will help families keep a lid on ski costs, there are other ways to avoid pouring pounds down the plughole, starting by changing travel money in advance rather than getting a poor rate at the airport."
