On the 28th of February and the 1st of March 2009 Bansko will see the Downhill and Super Giant Slalom take place on the Banderiza Track. Covering 2.9km and 2.6km respectively both races will begin just below the Todorka peak and finish down the Alberto ‘Tomba slope’.
In order for the town of Bansko to cater for its new status the infrastructure has undergone heavy investment. For the last month of 2008 alone the cost has excided 644000 BGN and the town now boasts the completed road from the Shiligarnika site to the Chalin Valog site. In addition Bansko now supports a total length of 4.3km of new streets, with both parking and pedestrians in mind.
The FIS has announced through its preliminary calendar that the Men’s World Cup discipline in Bansko is scheduled to join the calendar in 2011. As a direct result one can deduce Bansko’s continued growth seems assured for some time.
